Election Wars (Patriotism Trigger Warning)

For a long time now there has been talk about Russian interference in US elections. Shortly after the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States, a national investigation into the matter was begun. Very recently an incumbent senator’s campaign email accounts were reported to have been targeted by servers in the Ukraine. No matter what else, it should make us all sit up and take notice of our personal security as it pertains to email and web activity.

But boiling away all the extra bits, whether speculative, partisan, or whatever, this truth remains: there is evidence that outside forces have tried to hold sway in US elections through electronic means. And when it is reduced to its most basic elements it can be said that the most prevalent result of this is doubt.

As a country and a people, we Americans value our liberty, which is protected by our constitution, our military, our laws. And when something as fundamental to liberty as our voice, to wit, our vote is threatened, we will and should go to every length to protect it. And I believe this is what the perpetrators count on more than anything.

We have become almost obsessed with voter security to a fanatical extent. I believe we should protect ourselves. I believe in the freedom for which America stands. I also believe that we can not allow outsiders, especially from countries who thrive on inhibiting liberty to their own people, to have ANY input into the running of OUR country. “Witch hunts,” vendettas and everything aside, America must stand strong in the face of our adversaries. And we the people must support those who seek to keep us safe, no matter the cost.
